Looking for books with societies that have been formed after apocalypses- for example, the Fallout games/show where an unusual society has evolved, or the Horizon Zero Dawn games where humanity has adapted 🙂
I’m not talking about things like Hunger Games, where it’s not really addressed often that it used to be America, but something that includes the apocalyptic element more
Thanks!! x

Unrelated but funny that you should mention that the Hunger Games used to be America because according to the timeline, the first Hunger Games was in 2026 and didn’t Donald Trump announce his Patriot Games this year as well

The Gate into Women’s Country by Sheri S Tepper
A post apocalyptic novel where men and women mostly live separately.
It’s adjacent to a post-apocalyptic book, but “Land of Milk and Honey” was one of my favorite reads of 2024. It is about an American chef who ends up working in a billionaire compound after an ecological disaster that basically wipes out numerous species and kills many, many people.
In Snowcrash people live in enclaves run by corporations and only the pizza delivery guys are free to come and go.
One I’ve been meaning to read is the basis for the video game series of the same name, Metro 2033. The main basis is the survivors of a nuclear war existing in the metro stations of Moscow. If what I’ve played of the games is anything to go by, the book should be good as well.
Station eleven.
The Long Tomorrow
The Second Sleep
The Chrysalids
Davy
The Book of the Unnamed Midwife (though more in the sequels)
Seconding Book of Dave & Gate to Women’s Country, but TW for misogyny and homophobic eugenics, respectively
The Passage by Justin Cronin
Dreamsnake by Vonda N. McIntyre
