I know this is a very broad question, but I am traveling to London later this month and I like to read books with local relevance when I am visiting somewhere new. I enjoy page-turner‘s, thrillers, action, espionage – Doesn’t have to be anything too heavy, just looking for suggestions on any London related books. Again, I know that’s a really broad question but just curious what suggestions folks might have?

Neverwhere – Neil Gaiman
Rivers of London – Ben Aaronovitch
Brick Lane – Monica Ali
If you like Espionage and want London, you must read John Le Carre’s ‘Call for the Dead’. It is fantastic. Only 150ish pages.
How about Mick Herron’s Slow Horses series? It’s definitely covering a less glamorous side of the city, but the books still make me want to track down that area of the city.
Ann Morice. Agatha Christie. Dickens. I loved London, have fun!
The Art of a Lie by Laura Shepherd Robinson
Strike novels, Slough House
London by Edward Rutherfurd. Covers the history of London through the eyes of many generations of the same family.
Do the bus tour and do London walks in particular the Jack the Ripper walk.
And read a book about it before you go something like **The Complete History of Jack the Ripper** by Philip Sugden
Mother London and King of the City by Michael Moorcock
London by E Rutherford.
The rivers of London series must be done on audible and is highly addictive
The London Spy by Ned Ward! It’s a fun and through way to “see” historical London and how it overlaps on top of modern London. Don’t miss out on Londinium’s Roman walls while you’re there.
Zadie Smith’s White Teeth. The best contemporary comic novel I’ve read. Wonderful, diverse characters too.
