I'm looking for a book which covers the changes in a New York City neighbourhood – ideally on Manhattan.
Social, economic and cultural changes – it began as a meat packing district, then after the collapse of Pork Futures became a manufacturing area populated initially by Austrian immigrants who founded Ivanson Park, then became a predominantly Puerto Rician neighbourhood, before the closure of the factory caused a rise in gang violence, then in the 80s it became gentrified and a brownstone there sells for £2.8mil and the Ivanson Park set are a frequent target in the New Yorker. Stuff like that.
The period I'm interested in is between 1970 and the present day.
Is there anything suitable or similar? Thanks in advance.
