I’m looking for a novel set at a lake house or summer camp with strong atmosphere.
Think rustic cabins, docks, bonfires, loons at night, family tensions, old friendships, or small-town dynamics. Almost On Golden Pond in setting, but not that story.
Open to literary fiction or light thriller. Prefer adult characters over YA.

Tom lake – Ann patchett
If you’re open to horror, try Watcher of the Woods by Skyla Dawn Cameron
Surfacing by Margaret Atwood. I felt like I stumbled upon a secret masterpiece reading this. She is a master writer.
Into the Water, The Guest List or Pushback
It’s Not Her by Mary Kubica is exactly that (light thriller)
God of the woods by Liz Moore!
If you’re willing to exchange the lakeside setting for the seaside then Goodbye Tsugumi by Banana Yoshimoto. The characters are quite young adults and there is a saying goodbye to childhood/youth aspect to the story in a lovely nostalgic way, but it’s not what I’d call YA, it’s more lit fic with coincidentally young adult aged characters, and some campiness and old memories coming up and nights spent outside by the water included.
