I've recently read several books that I had been meaning to read forever, and I really didn't like any but one of them. DNF'd two (and if I said which ones they were, most of you would probably want me banned from the sub, lol).

I want to tackle something I've been meaning to tackle, but really love it, so I wanted to hear your suggestions. Some of what you've been putting off, I've probably been putting off! Any genre welcome, although I cannot read romance with smut, and it takes a lot to get me into a fantasy book but I can definitely make exceptions on fantasy.

    Already read and enjoyed:

    Count of Monte Cristo

    Les Mis

    Lonesome Dove

    A ton of Dickens

A lot more Victorian-era literature, especially gothic suspense/horror

    Lots of Steinbeck, Hemingway, Fitzgerald

Modern classics like The Corrections, Amazing Adventures of K&C, The Bluest Eye/other Toni Morrison, Zadie Smith

    Thanks in advance!

    1. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I love the author, but this one had a slower start than some of his other works. When I finally committed to reading it, it gave me a fresh perspective on how you can derive meaning from life out of virtually nothing. One of my all-time favorite books.

The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon. I also love amazing adventures of K&C. It may be my favorite book of all time. I tried to read the Yiddish Policemen’s Union and still have not finished. That was 4 years ago 😂 maybe you will have more luck! I found the story slower, and the main character not as mesmerizing as Kavalier.
