Hello! I’m looking for specifically a memoir/similar where a person becomes a lawyer/public advocate after growing up with parents struggling with addiction, affected by the justice system, or similar. If the lawyer route not a district attorney. Thank you!

You might want to check out Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It’s not the exact upbringing you described, but it does follow someone who becomes a public interest lawyer working closely with people impacted by the justice system, and it’s very grounded in how early life experiences shape that path. It reads like a memoir even though it weaves in client stories, and it’s very human rather than legal heavy.
If you’re open to something adjacent, you could also look at memoirs where the author grows up around instability or addiction and then moves into advocacy work more broadly. Sometimes the lawyer angle is less common, but the justice system thread is strong.
