Hi all! I've recently read both Babel by RF Kuang and a biography on Smedley Buttler's (future Marine Corps general and eventual anti war advocate)early career in the Philippines and China and realized I don't know much about that time period and area of focus despite loving history. I'm looking for a historical fiction, or just well done fiction in a historical setting that would let me dip my toes in this era and orient me to the time period so I can spend hours on wikipedia researching all of the references.
