I’m looking for stories where the tension is not just “find your calling” but “you could go in several directions, so how do you choose?”
I enjoy series with characters drama and an ambitious mc going all in on their interest, but most series like this about "figuring out what to do with their life" often have the main character zone in on the one interest they have and becoming great at that, which is wonderful in its own way. But I was interested if any series ever explored the main character having multiple interests and figuring out what to do with all that, whether to pick one or do them all at once. Having to pick between making money and being fulfilled, picking which of the interests to get better in first and going through those kinds of decisions. Preferably the main interest being something creative or inventive or technical.

The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss
Check out **The Name of the Wind** by Patrick Rothfuss.
Kvothe pursues music, magic, academics, and survival simultaneously, constantly torn between ambitions. Alternatively, **The Goldfinch** by Donna Tartt features a protagonist navigating art, commerce, and identity at once.
Both capture that exact tension of “too many directions, too little time.”
