I thought of this post when I was thinking about Edgar Rice Burroughs. Obviously, his most enduring work is Tarzan but that's honestly not my favorite story from him. That belongs to A Princess of Mars and the larger Barsoom series.

I mean, they did make a John Carter movie but it flopped and it's the things Barsoom influenced that have endured the most.

I'm just wondering: who are some other authors where their most enduring work may not be their best?

    1. The People In the Trees was the first book I read by Hana Yanagihara and I still think it’s better than A Little Life in every way.
