This seems like a simple ask but I'm really struggling to find books where the mc has to leave a safe(ish) situation, enter a dangerous one in order to achieve a goal but plans to return after.
My ideal is a post apocalyptic setting where people live in safe settlements/zones and certain people/groups have to venture out into danger in order to collect supplies or fix things.
The books I have read that fit this description are:
The feeding by a j ryan – fmc has to join a group of 'crossers' in order to get meds for her father. This is a zombieish survival story.
Firewalkers by Adrian Tchaikovsky – groups of people are forced to travel into the overheated earth in order to fix tech keeping their settlement running. This was more clifi than monsters.
The only recommendation I've been able to find is Hell Divers which does seem to fit the bill but it's not avaliable at my library or through subscription services I have so I'm hoping to find more options!
