Suggest me a book! For reference, some of my favorites are the Sherlock Holmes stories, Agatha Christie, Beowulf, Lonesome Dove, Arthur C Clarke, Stephen King, Peter Straub, Hemingway, James Herriot, Vonnegut, Lovecraft, Camus, Christopher Moore, and good old Shakespeare.
Not really interested in romance novels. I do like happy stories. I tried Pride and Prejudice and absolutely hated it, but I’m very interested in more classic literature. I appreciate any recommendations.

We have similar taste! I’d recommend:
– Shirley Jackson (We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Haunting of Hill House) – horror
– Dumas (The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo) if you like swashbuckling adventure
– The Road by Cormac McCarthy (and possibly his other books if you like Westerns/horror)
– Annihilation series by Jeff VanderMeer (more horror/sci fi)
– The Secret History by Donna Tartt (kind of a reverse mystery with LOTS of classic references)
