I’ve recently finished Shogun and Monte Cristo, and I love their long adventures, epic quests, and deep character development. Now I’m looking for something similar, but based on Greek mythology—focusing on Zeus, Poseidon, god feuds, and their interactions with humans.
I want that Lord of the Rings quest vibe (monsters, divine meddling), Shogun intrigue, and Monte Cristo revenge/peril feel, as a captivating page-turner.
Common suggestions I’ve seen: The Odyssey (Emily Wilson translation), The Iliad, Song of Achilles, Circe, or Mythos by Stephen Fry.
I don’t want anything too old-school or high-school-study material that’s hard to read—need an engaging story first. Length OK (don’t mind long books), prefer standalone first but open to short series.
What’s your top recommendation to start with? Thanks!
