I’ve been going through a pretty hard time recently and really need to disappear into a book or two to take my mind off stuff!
I’m looking for your ultimate feel good books, the kind of books that whisk you off into a happy head space and make you smile!

The house in the cerulean sea! Super heartwarming
The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
Anxious People by Fredrick Backman.
Sorry for your tough time. I liked The Midnight Library. Also Wedding People. I also enjoy Miriam Keyes for an absorbing read. However not sure of the nature of your hard time so read the summaries to make sure nothing triggering for your situation. Total escapism for me is Ken Follet Pillars of the Earth series
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton is very wholesome.
A little life is a very refreshing one. 😌
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and The Wedding People. Both have some dark aspects to them, but are ultimately very life affirming and heartwarming.
All Creatures Great and Small, Legends and Lattes, and as already mentioned, House on the Cerulean Sea.
Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop by Hwang Boreum
A very personal suggestion.. the At Home in Mitford series by Jan Karon. A sweet tale of a middle age pastor and his congregation in small town appalachia. It is a Christian series (I am not) so there is definitely a specific “perspective” when it comes to morals and more. However it does not feel pushy. Her writing is excellent, you get to know and love the characters, and nothing *bad* happens. Possibly the most wholesome books I have read. They were my comfort books when I was younger and going through a hard time. I hope that you find the literary escape you need<3
The Yiddish Policemans Union
(Not for everyone, but it is my go to)
Brighten the Corner Where You Are by Fred Chappell.
The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett
*The Tao of Pooh* by Benjamin Hoff.
Learn the principle of the Tao while belly laughing.
the midnight library by matt haig.
really good read.
