My 6 yo is very interested in poetry and wants to start her "for ever book collection" as she calls it. For now, I have just read from my own poetry books (and censored anything that isn't age appropriate), but she's beginning to read and I suspect it won't be long until she can read the books herself. Does anyone have suggestions for poetry books that aren't too dark or has too much swearing in them? 😅
We have bought and borrowed a lot of poetry books for children (rhyming books, etc) for her but she doesn't like them 😅 My guess is that she likes that the adult books play with the language in a more complex way, use a lot of metaphors and makes her think. She understands a lot of complex words and loves learning new words.
The books can be in Danish, English, Norwegian or Swedish. She is fluent in Danish but good at English for her age – and is starting to read in both languages.
She loves Søren Ulrik Thomsen who is known as one of the 80's (punk ish) poets. The language is full of metaphors, but still quite minimalistic. There's a focus on existentialism, time and sensing the world.

I don’t have any suggestions, but just wanted to say that this is adorable and I hope your daughter will continue loving poetry and enjoy her forever book collection 🙂
