honestly i don't know what exactly I'm looking for, since i haven't read in quite a while, but basically i am looking for something that isn't necessarily an adventure but isn't entirely "slice of life" either.
I also want something that's far enough from reality without being full on fantasy. so no heavy political things for example.
i wouldn't mind a book that makes me think and i enjoy light as well as darker themes (as long as the darker themes are far enough from "normal" life).
I don't want romance as the main plot and honestly, the less of it the better.
i enjoyed The Secret History by Donna Tartt even though it was a bit too long for my taste. I liked the dark aesthetics of the book, but as I mentioned I wouldn't mind something lighter either.
i hope I'm not being too particular or picky. I'm greatful for all recommendations. have a lovely day 🙂
(both english and german books welcome)

The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, if you haven’t read it already. Funny, a little dark.
Just to clarify “without it being full on fantasy” means you prefer books without fantastical elements (such as Secret History) or do you just not want dragons and wizards everywhere?
I loved I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman for a dystopia escape, or for something a little darker, The Country Will Bring Us No Peace by Matthieu Simard was a great read. I hope you find something you like!
