Mainly I’m looking for recs that blew you off your feet because of the way they’re written or the way the author presented their plot. Initially I’d focus more on separate recs but if a book is great in both these dimensions I’ll happily have that too.
I’ll take most stuff that’s fiction and preferably not extreme horror or romance (at least if there’s a romantic element it’s only a side plot with no or little to no relevance to the man storyline)!

Albert of Adalaide by Howard L Anderson is a fish-out-of-water western-style novel about a platypus that escapes the Adalaide zoo and finds himself in the outback while seeking an old Australia from pre-colonial times. Very witty writing, charming plot, excellent character work.
To directly quote the book description,
“Alone in the outback, with an empty soft drink bottle as his sole possession, Albert stumbles upon pyromaniacal wombat Jack, and together they spend a night drinking and gambling in Ponsby Station, a rough-and-tumble mining town. Accused of burning down the local mercantile, the duo flees into menacing dingo territory and quickly go their separate ways-Albert to pursue his destiny in the wastelands, Jack to reconcile his past.
Encountering a motley assortment of characters along the way-a pair of invariably drunk bandicoots, a militia of kangaroos, hordes of the mercurial dingoes, and a former prize-fighting Tasmanian devil-our unlikely hero will discover a strength and skill for survival he never suspected he possessed.”
