I am looking for fiction books with dumb/idiotic main characters. Not necessarily ones people don't like because they think they make bad decisions or whatnot, but main characters who are intentionally written to be pretty dumb. Books like, Confederacy of Dunces, Hitchhiker's Guide, The Color of Magic, or Gideon the Ninth are good examples of what I'm hoping to get. It's not 100% necessary but if you could provide an explanation of said character's stupidity, that would be fantastic.

If you are into Thriller/Suspense with equal parts comedy look into the author **Carl Hiaasen**. He spent 20+ years as a journalist for the Miami Herald before breaking out as a fiction writer with the craziest and most insane plots and characters for mystery, thriller, & suspense books I have ever read. He has taken decades of actual “Florida-Man” stories and created the most outrageous plots that are 100% believable when you apply the “Yea, that could totally happen in Florida” lens.
His 30+ books are mostly stand-alones, each with differnt MC’s. He has one 8 book series called Skink, one 2 book series the follow a private detective Mick Stranahan, and a 4 book series called Black Lizard. All his books take place in Florida and the Keys with most of the story lines about eco-terrorist fighting to save Florida’s natural habitats, evil land developers, and corrupt Florida politicians.
He has the funniest book I have ever read about a murder in the world of competitive Bass Fishing titled **Double Whammy**.
His latest book is called **Fever Beach** and the MC, Dale Figgo, has the rare distinction of being kicked out of the Proud Boys—for being too dumb. He uncover a tangle of corruption and conspiracy led by a plastic-surgery-loving billionaire couple and a clueless congressman, and is amazingly on point with politics in the US right now.
