My dad was recently diagnosed with throat cancer and will be starting chemotherapy next week. He is a huge go-getter — loves to be active by volunteering and giving back to his community. I think he will be sad to take a break from those activities during his treatment so I want to get him a book to occupy his time. I don’t want something inspirational from a cancer survivor, but rather something generally uplifting and heartwarming. It could be fiction or nonfiction. His interests are NASCAR, baseball, hockey, classic rock, Christianity/evangelism. He currently serves as a volunteer as an usher at a local venue, a food bank and driving blood for the Red Cross. Thanks in advance!

_The Natural_ by Bernard Malamud may be the most beloved American baseball novel (confession: I don’t know any other American baseball novels).
mort by terry pratchett -> good joke material if anyone asks he can say he is prepping and it is light and funny.
