TL;DR: looking for feel-good books where the main character overcomes hardships
I really want to get back into reading. I used to love reading when I was younger (mostly classics) but I haven’t finished a book in a few years now.
I recently decided to start reading The Alchemist because I heard it’s an easy read and thought it would help get me back into the habit of reading. I know this book gets a lot of criticism here on Reddit, so I went into it not expecting much, but I am really liking it so far.
I know sounds a little cheesy but it’s giving me hope during a very difficult time in my life. I (20F) recently lost my father and this book provides me with a lot of solace for some reason. I feel like I can relate to the main character, Santiago, in some ways. Maybe it’s just because he’s around my age, but following his journey in the book, him deciding to set off on this big adventure and abandoning his life as a shepherd, everything immediately going wrong and him losing all his money, him feeling lost, wanting to give up and go back to his old life, then deciding to continue his journey regardless of what happened, it all feels very relatable in some ways. Perhaps it’s because I also feel very lost in my own life at the moment, and reading about him going on this life changing journey feels very comforting and inspiring.
I’m looking for books similar to this, bonus points if it features a protagonist who’s also in their 20s and is overcoming challenges in their life because I really like being able to relate but this is not a must by any means lol
Thank you in advance for any recs!
