My girlfriend and I are going on a short road trip today and we’re looking for an audiobook that overlaps with both of our interests. My girlfriend is into mystery, literature, and likes a more warm tone. Unfortunately I am into the complete opposite. My favorite genres are sci-fi, fiction, and love a dark, dry tone. Books my girlfriend likes are: maze runner, hunger games, and true crime podcasts. Books I like are: roadside picnic, the road, and house of leaves
Ideally the suggestion is < 4hrs and on Spotify or YouTube
Thanks 🙂

The Grace Year might be a good fit! It does lean more towards her interests though. I’ve only read it so not sure of the audiobook quality.
maybe try “dark matter” by blake crouch? it’s got that sci-fi mystery vibe with some dark elements but also a really emotional core about relationships. should hit both your sweet spots.
As someone who doesn’t read a lot of sci fi, I really liked the Murderbot series as it had a lot of heart to it. The first novella, All Systems Red, is under 4 hours.
This is how you lose the time war
A Psalm for the Wild Built is warm sci-fi ish!
Red Rising by Pierce Brown. The narrator’s voice is 👌🏼
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, by Douglas Adams. It is kind of mystery, with a bit of sci-fi.
I would go with The Nightwood Song. My mystery-loving cousin said he read it in a few days, so I gave it a try. We both loved it.
The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall
