When I was a kid I used to love the Hal and Roger series by Willard Price. As far as I remember they were biologists who were investigating rare animal sightings, stopping poachers etc. They would face dangerous environments like volcanoes, the arctic, deep under water etc and there would always be plenty of near death experiences and encounters with animals or natural disasters/ phenomena. Willard price was a biologist so he had a really deep understanding of different species and environments.
I recently tried to reread a novel of his, but it was both for kids/YA, and very of its time.
Can you suggest me some other books, ideally a series that might scratch this itch?
I am currently trying the Dirk Pitt series but not enjoying the prose so much. There's a lot of "ample cleavage" and saying things "masculinely" etc and it's kinda pulling me out of it a bit
I don't want fantasy, I want realistic threats and dangers!
Thanks so much
