I recently read Rachel Hawkins's The Storm, and it introduced me to an itch I didn't know I had: set in the American South, on the coast, hot summertime, atmospheric, with the climax happening in a sudden intense hurricane. I really liked all of those aspects of that book and realized I couldn't think of other books that had a big intense storm like that as a plot and setting device, that didn't take place in winter. Not really looking for winter storms, just wondering if you can think of any other non-winter weather events that are important to atmosphere and plot in a novel that you loved.
