I’m writing my own novel with a lot of unlikeable characters, and I’m trying to strike a balance that isn’t too insufferable for the reader and hoping to do some research by reading. What are some books that do this dynamic well? Any genre is fine for me

    1. I think *The Magicians* by Lev Grossman does a good job of this. The characters for the most part are privileged, arrogant, can do nearly anything they want (literally) and are also miserable and shot through with mental illness and the ennui of being young adults who are “full of promise” but have no idea what to do with themselves.
