I like F Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Kerouac.
More modern books random smattering, I’ve read and have enjoyed – Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Flesh by David Szalay, Sense of an ending by Julian Barnes, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.
I have a hard time finding books that are punchy, with a story I care about and excellent prose without trying too hard.
Open to old or new books. Less obvious ones would be appreciated, Not Stoner lol.

Revolutionary Road – Richard Yates
London and the Southeast by Szalay is great.
Do you read Mark Helprin? He’s a tremendous prose stylist. A Soldier of the Great War is maybe my favorite but I’ve read 90% of his stuff and it’s all worthwhile.
David Mitchell is probably my favorite living writer. The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet is his best book but having read 100% of his work, I can tell you it’s all magnificent.
Jonathan Lethem is another writer I love. Motherless Brooklyn, The Fortress of Solitude, and Chronic City are particularly good.
