I just finished reading The Outsiders, and I am adding it to my favorite books shelf. I loved the fun brother Sodapop was and the protective one Darry was; I liked seeing the other side of Dally; and I appreciated how it could be all smoking, drinking, violence, and cussing with reason.* The ending hit hard as it brought the book full circle and showed something that had been light and innocent to be dark or ominous. However, I liked it from page one, and I think it was the innocence and narration of Ponyboy that did it. I enjoyed the casual way he talked, almost as if you and he were chatting.

So anything else you'd think I'd enjoy? I looked at the "Readers who liked this book also enjoyed…" on Goodreads and have already read most of them. Other favorite books of mine are Gone with the Wind, The Count of Monte Cristo, Persuasion, The Scarlet Pimpernel, 1984, and The Prestige. A wide spread of various genres, but all books from the far past or distant future with tons of drama, some adventure, and sometimes romance.

*In other words, a lot of modern-day authors throw in "bad content" so the readers can enjoy it, but the characters here did it because that's part of their environment and community. And just because they cussed didn't mean that you had to read every swear.
