I don't really like reading as I read really slow, but I've forced myself to read a decent amount, mostly classics and fantasy, but there's one style I get totally hooked on whenever I find it. Unfortunately it's hard to describe since it's not a genre.

The books I get really hooked on seem to be tactical in a way, and concerned with how the world functions. We're not just going to describe a big fantasy battle, we're going to integrate how the blood in the river pollutes the water supply for nieghboring settlements. It's thought out.

The only examples that I can think of are The Witcher series, parts of the first two Hunger Games, and World War Z, though that one is starting to dissapoint me on a second reading as it's coming across as gingoistic. The second a book like that starts to display a biased and ignorant world view I lost trust in the author. Which is a problem because I'm sure I could find plenty of what I'm looking for with Tom Clancy or Orson Scott Card.

If you have any recommendations that would be awesome. As you can see, genre does not matter. I love the style if it's fantasy, zombies, sci-fi, I'll try Victorian romance and even nonfiction. And if you know what the hell I'm talking about and have a name for it, I'll name my firstborn after you if you tell me what it is.
