I've been kinda avoiding newer releases. Probably unintentional because of the Ai problem, but also most books I hear about are considered time tested.
I know there's the stereotype that everything that comes out is romantacy. Though to be honest I've been disappointing by recommendations from older books that have weak romantic elements too. It's also just not a genre I care much for in general.

The Poet Empress by Shen Tao, which has been described as an anti-romantasy.
Vigil by George Saunders. It’s short and he’s a great author.
We are legion (we are bob) – amazing science fiction book that balance is comedy and introspection really well

Remarkably Bright Creatures
Between Two Fires
Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton.
I know booktok is all about romantasy but there are a million other books being released! I’d recommend going to a local bookstore or library and browsing the “new shelf” you are sure to find something great
