i’m chasing a very specific reading experience and i’m curious what books have given other people this feeling.
the best way i can describe it is when a novel makes you feel completely immersed in the characters’ lives to the point that you’re thinking about them even when you’re not reading. not just enjoying the story, but feeling emotionally invested in them as if they’re real people.
two books that really did this for me were a little life and the hearts invisible furies. both had characters that felt so vividly drawn that i kept thinking about them long after i finished the last page.
i’m curious what novels have done that for other people. not necessarily just sad books, but stories where the characters feel so real that you carry them around with you for a while after finishing.
books i’ve already read: a little life, the hearts invisible furies, the goldfinch, shuggie bain
