Every era has that writer who pushes things too far. The one people whisper about but can't stop talking about. For the 1700s it was Sade. 1900s maybe Burroughs or Genet.
Who's doing that work now? Not just shock value but actual ideas wrapped in extreme stuff. Dennis Cooper comes to mind. Angela Carter wrote about Sade and called herself a moral pornographer. Kathy Acker maybe.
