Hi ive just got through rereading red storm rising for the first time in about 15 years. I also enjoyed the most other tom clancy books up until he started to co author them, they just lost their something special then and got kind of repetitive and less believable. But the thing is they feel a bit dated now and honestly ive read them to death. Are there any newer authors that are gripping and detailed like his older books? Ive tried a few other authors like clive cussler and Mathew really but they are more action based and not really believable, more James bond like to me. Id love any suggestions on more up to date books/ authors in the same vein as the older Tom clancy books.

To me it’s Stephen Hunter, the Mark Wahlberg movie Shooter is an adaptation of his work. The settings are not modern, though.
There’s a current writer named Jack Carr who is popular but who really doesn’t do it for me.
You might try John Le Carre’s Russia House; it has some similarities to The Cardinal and the Kremlin.
