hello ! i recently just picked up reading as a hobby for the first time in years, and i was wondering if anybody had recommendations as to how to jump back into it. my goal is to eventually get to literary fictions/classics like wuthering heights, frankenstein, moby dick, count of monte cristo, but obviously i can’t jump straight into it.
i’ve read dr. jekyll and mr. hyde and a bunch of lovecraft’s novellas and shorts (call of cthulhu, at the mountains of madness, the nameless city, dagon, and the shadow of innsmouth). i’m currently reading invisible man by h.g. wells which i’m liking a lot. lovecraft is a good writer but sometimes a little too scientific to be as engaging as i want it to be
i love horror, sci-fi, fantasy, drama romance (normal people), big epics like lord of the rings, dune, and red rising trilogy, anything that is heavily thematic and metaphorical. i want to stay away from airport books like jack reacher and james patterson type books, and YA melodrama. i’m a big fan of lucas oakley’s content and will take up his recommendations in the future. also love movies so let me know if i should drop what movies i love to help with recommendations
i know this is very broad, but any suggestions are welcome. i deeply appreciate any recommendations anyone gives me

if you’re into sci-fi with a more psychological / philosophical vibe, you might like

something isn’t wrong… it just feels wrong
not really action heavy, more slow and unsettling
