Sven Hassel’s novels about the “27th (Penal) Panzer Regiment composed of expendable soldiers.” Hassel’s books are grittier, more violent and the characters are far less honorable than Cornwell’s.

Band of Brothers by Ambrose has some similarities.

Honestly would be keen to read the same.
Closest I can think of, which isnt close at all, would be either El Borak, or G8 and his Battle Aces.
El Boraks an interwar cowboy lawrence of arabia
G8 is a pulp super spy who flies a plane furing ww1 and fights german super science.
