I was raised catholic and have entered adulthood with some degree of love for God but not for the religion. Setting that aside I'd really love to try reading books that navigate a person's religious journey, maybe where someone goes through religious conflict or drama but comes out the other side with kindness.

    I’m especially interested in:

    • how faith impacts a person's relationship (familial, friendship, romantic – anything really)
    • characters who question or step away from their religion but don’t necessarily lose their sense of the sacred
    • themes of kindness, grace, and redefining what belief looks like

Some examples of characters I can think of with these kind of themes are:

    – the priest from fleabag

    – father jud from wake up dead man

    • this one very specific good omens fanfic (sanctuary by moonyinpisces) where a nomadic angel runs away from enforcing a plan that converts the whole world to christianity, instead finding love for his God in other religions.
      • "I wasn’t hiding from the sacred,” he begins. “It’s–I was bathing in it. The places I traveled to, they were a bastion of divinity, of love, of the Almighty not as I’m expected to love Her but in the way that I do.” He rubs his hands up and down Crowley’s side, slotting his fingers lightly into the notches and divots of his ribcage. “You said I was escaping, hiding, running away, and I need you to know that perhaps I was, but. It was never from Her"

In terms of genre I'm pretty flexible, anything fiction is good. thank u 🙂
