I’m looking for a fantasy novel or series that will have me HOOKED. I loved Harry Potter as a kid, I loved Rick riordans work, and as a tween I loved Red Queen, The hunger games, and Divergent. I recently read Fourth wing, and I enjoyed it BUT I’m looking for something with better writing. Any suggestions?

Red Rising if you loved Hunger Games, the first book is literally the same book lol. Really good series. It’s sci fi/fantasy.
* The Historian by Kostova is somewhat fantasy… somewhat not. A girl’s father goes missing, after researching Vlad Dracul, the inspiration for Dracula. Has a surreal, mystical feel.
* The Fionavar Tapestry is criminally under read as a series, an arthurian inspired trilogy that starts with The Summer Tree
* I am reading Land of Milk and Honey – more post apocalyptic than true fantasy, but so beautifully written (and I often stall out on fantasy when the writing just gets *SO* bad, so this is like a breath of fresh air.)
* Im assuming you tried Priory of the Orange Tree. It took me a minute to get into it, but it is a true, female led, non smutty, not terrible fantasy- a freakin’ unicorn it seems.
* My outta-left-field rec is S. By Dorst and Abrams. It inspired that obsessive, cant put it down phenomenon that really good fantasy can but in a totally different package. An old library book with a mysterious lineage is being pursued by two students, with others pursuing them – and the story is told through the marginalia as you read the old book.
* OH! And since you like myths, Stephen Fry’s 4 books on greek myths (Mythos, Heroes, Troy, Odyssey) are PHENOMENAL, especially as audiobooks. Laugh out loud funny, faithful retellings. And Emily Wilson’s latest translations of Odyssey and Iliad are phenomenal – Odyssey read by Claire Danes and Iliad by Audra McDonald.
