books that teach you something about the world, fast(ish) paced, lovable characters, bonus for queer themes, nature & psychology!

hello~ trying to get out of a slump & looking for recs based on what i've enjoyed:

– once there were wolves (beautiful writing, the idea of rewilding by reintroducing predators fascinated me, plus the mystery kept things moving where otherwise my attention might have slipped)

– roses, in the mouth of a lion (also beautiful in its symbolism & tender portrayal of characters & place)

– empire of pain (illuminating – although i skimmed over bits of the ending)

– braiding sweetgrass (mind-expanding..)

– in the dream house (hurt [but good])

– model home (felt like a Get Out X Haunting of Hill House)

– how far the light reaches (real, raw, but also filled me with love & wonder)

– ma & me

– transcendent kingdom
