For a while I had my finger on the pulse of this sub genre but I feel like I haven’t been paying attention to new releases lately and I want to make sure I haven’t missed any.
Always a huge fan of weird sad evil queer books, especially if the protagonists are experiencing the horrors, and if people are making morally questionable decisions.

The Burning Kingdoms
She Who Became the Sun
The Book of the Ancestor
This is How You Lose the Time War
Baru Cormorant
Memory Called Empire
Etc etc.
These are just off the top of my head and I’m sure I’m missing others.
Anything new within the last 1-2 years that features queer women (bonus if there is gender fuckery) being horrible and having horrible things done unto them? Genuinely don’t care about whether or not there is a romance. What is more important to me is the story being woman-focused and the main women absolutely under no circumstances ending up in a romantic relationship with a man. Down for non-queer books as long as there are mostly women and none of them fall in love with a man over the course of the story.
Bonus for violence and tragedy. Double bonus for butches.
