I just finished reading Perma Red by Debra Magpie Earling and it has easily become one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve never felt so entrenched and moved by a book in my life, the writing so poetic and immersive. The story was dark and beautiful, with romance shrouded by pain and seemingly unending whiplash.
I’m looking for something similar, a coming of age story about a woman facing a lot of trials and tribulations, growing up in hard times and even harder conditions. I want something to make me giggle and kick my feet one second and then send me to hell the next.
Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich seems like a close contender, but I would love some more suggestions from anyone that’s read either.
