Can you recommend any good books with mermaids, sirens or mythical water creatures?? I’m a little too obsessed with sirens lately andddd yeah… also, I’m notorious for leaving books half finished if they’re boring or sumn and I know that the book doesn’t have a good ending, weather it’s with kings, pirates, fairies or regular people, just whatever it’s about. I like books with good stories. I’ve been liking the daughter of the pirate king and stories like that, if that helps. Thank you ☺️

The main quest in River Mumma by Zalika Reid-Benta centres around placating an angry river spirit

The Rivers of London also feature river spirits pretty prominently, as the name suggests

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant – a team of scientists investigate the disappearance of a research ship in the deep sea, and discover mermaids that subvert all of the “beautiful mermaids” stereotypes. Fantastic book!

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen – based on West African water spirit mythology and set during the slave trade era.

The Bone Diver by Angie Spoto – set in Scotland and based on mythology of selkies (seal people).

The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by S A Chakraborty – a middle aged woman returns to her former life as a pirate, and encounters all sorts of adventures.

My Sister Sif by Ruth Park. Not exactly mermaids (it’s been a while since I’ve read it) but very marine based.

A Bone in His Teeth by Kellen Graves
