Suggest me a Penguin Classic that’s good for a beginner.

I’m 15 and want to start reading classics, but a lot of them seem really old fashioned or hard to understand. I’d like something that’s easier to read but still interesting and not boring.

I’m open to any genre, I just want a good first classic to get into it.

Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. One of the first novels I ever read, from my high school years. It wasn’t a classic back then (1960s) but it’s now a Penguin Classic.

    2. Not sure if it’s a penguin classic, but I will always recommend The Giver by Lois Lowry. Such an amazing book, and it’s short enough to be a quick weekend read.

The gift of magi, a Christmas carol, shirley jackson the lottery and other stories.

These are all short so they shouldn’t be too bad.
