I'm looking for a book that maps out the 'rise of the finance industry' — specifically the nexus between private credit/equity and government-adjacent institutions.
I’ve read things like King of Capital (David Carey) and The New Tycoons (Jason Kelly), which are good for private credit, but they don't scratch the deeper surface.
On the other side, books like Confessions of an Economic Hitman (John Perkins), The Shock Doctrine (Naomi Klein), or One Nation Under Blackmail (Whitney Webb) dive into the structural power of the IMF, World Bank, and intelligence networks, but they don't explain the actual industry map or the career roles within it.
Does anyone have a recommendation that bridges these gaps?
I'm looking for something that maps out who's running the show, how these institutions came to be / evolved, and the actual roles/mechanisms of the people working inside them.

Not exactly what you’re seeking but these are all relevant:
*The capital order* by Clara Mattei
*The darker nations* by Vijay Prashad
*What is antiracism and why it means anticapitalism* by Arun Kundnani
