    Hello, everyone! Since the beginning of this year, I’ve finally had a chance to properly get back into reading after a fairly long period of stagnation (I did my best to read at least one book a year, still), but after getting through several books that I’d been putting off, I find myself with no ideas for what to read next, and I’m the one to blame for it.

    The thing is, I feel like I have a pretty narrow taste in books. Here’s everything I can say about it before I ask for your suggestions (with examples):

    Sci-fi as a genre is the majority of what I reach for. I love a space opera, but those can get pretty repetitive and, as a result, boring when I read them back to back. I’ve read the books written by Andy Weir, the Bobiverse, some of the Expanse series, the Three Body Problem etc.;

    • I don’t much enjoy traditional fantasy (think: anything that resembles the works of Tolkien), and I don’t find romantasy any more appealing;

    • I love horror, but mostly just the supernatural kind, and in a cruel twist of fate, I unfortunately despise Stephen King’s writing. I’ve enjoyed some of Graham Masterton’s books, and I’m currently reading through Michael McDowell’s Blackwater series;

    • Somewhat an extension on the previous points—I really like stories that deal with the apocalypse/post-apocalypse. Some of my favourite books of all time come from the Metro 2033 trilogy and extended universe;

    • I’ll read an occasional romance (think: Lyla Sage’s Rebel Blue Ranch series), but I don’t care for straight up erotica;

    • I don’t often reach for crime/detective stories, but I find Agatha Christie’s works very entertaining;

    • What little non-fiction I’ve read was on the topic of sign languages and the culture of the Deaf;

    • I don’t really read books directed at teenagers and young adults anymore (think: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo);

    With all that said, I’m looking for suggestions of books that could push the boundaries of what I like and that would introduce me to some new genres and topics. As I’ve said, I know I’m the problem here. I’m reluctant to leave my comfort zone, but then I get bored of the things I do read. Please, recommend me anything you think I might enjoy, even if I’ve mentioned the genre as one I don’t like/don’t read. I’m keeping an open mind!

    Thank you so much in advance!
