Normally I don’t like when an author uses excessive descriptions to tell their story, but Donna is one of the very few who does so masterfully – she doesn’t waste her words when painting her pictures. She’s truly an artist! I breezed through The Secret History, even though it was pretty dense, and became an instant fan of hers from it. I started reading The Goldfinch, but I’ve been thinking of putting that on the back burner and move onto The Little Friend instead. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

This being said, has there been any news or insider info as to whether or not she’s writing another book? It was 10 years between The Secret History and The Little Friend, and 11 years between that and The Goldfinch. As of now, it’s going on 13 years since.

man i feel you on the wait, it’s brutal when authors take that long between books but tartt seems to be one of those writers who just takes forever to craft everything perfectly. last i heard she was supposedly working on something but there’s been radio silence for years now

i’d actually recommend sticking with the goldfinch instead of jumping to the little friend – goldfinch is way more accessible and engaging even though it’s longer. the little friend is good but it’s definitely her most challenging read and can be a bit of a slog in parts. plus if you’re already invested in goldfinch might as well see it through

from what i remember reading in some interview a few years back, she mentioned having ideas for her next book but knowing her pace we’re probably looking at another 5+ years minimum. the woman literally spent over a decade on goldfinch so who knows, maybe she’s just one of those authors who needs that much time to marinate everything

    2. I periodically check to see if she has releases anything., 13 years is a new record for her! I read The Goldfinch back in 2013 and loved it, never saw the movie as I heard it was rubbish and I saw that she fired her agent over how awful it was and will never allow her other works to be adapted. It’s worth pressing on through – Tartt really loves Dickens and you can see how she mirrors themes and structure off of his works.
