Is it rude to ask a publisher (or author) when the softcover version of their book will release?
I’m really excited for Marcus Kliewer’s new book *The Caretaker* but the physical book is only being released as a hardcover. My dad and I like reading books together, so I get us physical copies instead of ebooks. That way we can write in the margins and he doesn’t have to deal with tech. In addition to softcover preference, money is a bit tight right now.
I wasn’t sure if it’s a faux pas to ask though.

not rude at all, publishers get this question constantly and most authors are pretty cool about it too 📚 worst case they just say they don’t have a date yet 🤷♂️
