I am just getting into a 2 season series that is on HULU Called the OUTSIDERS. It is about the FERRAL Clan that lives on a mountain in Kentucky and their battle with a Coal company that is trying to evict them etc..
The Ferrals are a clan that are mysterious, make good moonshine and generally keep to themselves and live up in the remote mountains. They are illiterate but "Smart" and have a reputation where no one will mess with them. They have their own mysterious beliefs etc and rituals that they engage with… It is a pretty engaging story.. but only has 2 seasons.
I would like to know if there are any book series that kind of fits that genre?
I really like the aspect of the connection to the land/mountain, back woods etc. Mysterious beliefs etc.
