I've been reading a lot of slow literary fiction recently and I want something faster to keep things fresh
I read a lot of horror, sci fi, and fantasy but I try to read broadly so I'm open to any genre (doesn't even have to be fiction, I enjoy narrative non fiction too!) I like books that are written in an interesting way or that play around with narrative techniques
Authors I've enjoyed in the past: Stephen Graham Jones, T Kingfisher, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Brandon Sanderson
Books I've read recently and what I thought about them:
Butter by Asako Yuzuki (mostly enjoyed but found it veryyyy slow)
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (LOVED this)
Soft Core by Brittany Newell (didn't like this one)
loads of Stephen Graham Jones (I like all his stuff but my absolute favorite is The Buffalo Hunter Hunter)

You should try some Alix E Harrow books! Fast paced and dark with good writing. I’ve only read Starling House but I’ve heard that people really love The Once and Future Witches
You might enjoy **The Library at Mount Char** by Scott Hawkins, a wild ride of an urban fantasy/horror-ish, mystery box, sort of story, that will keep you engaged right from the start.
**The Gone World** by Tom Sweterlitsch is an intense, trippy, dark, sci-fi thriller you might enjoy. Secret government agencies, murder mystery, and alternate realities.
You might also enjoy **The Devils** by Joe Abercrombie, a fun, fast-paced, dark fantasy novel. It leans a bit more into the comedy than his other (also excellent) fantasy series the First Law, and features a great cast of highly-flawed characters you’ll come to love. A team of supernatural ‘baddies’ head out on a secret quest across alternate-history-medieval-fantasy-Europe.
**Children of Time** by Adrian Tchaikovsky is a great, fast-paced, sci-fi/fantasy novel, filled with interesting characters, rich world building, adventure, and a creative, compelling sci-fi premise at the core of an engaging story.
