Not sure how it took me so long to realise, but books I’ve enjoyed the most are fiction stories that evolve through the history of a country and culture.
Some examples are:
The Poisonwood Bible
Homegoing
Pachinko
Homeseeking
Lots of Chimamanda examples, Half of a Yellow Sun being the obvious one
I watched O Agent Secreto very recently so high on my priority list is one about the Brazil military dictatorship. Doesn’t have to be fiction (just that I normally lean towards it), as I also loved Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe! Please send me reccs 🙂
