I have recently read My year of rest and relaxation by Ottessa Monshfegh, which has left with me controversial feelings. I did not really like the book, which I found hurried and inconclusive especially in its final parts, but I really appreciated the narrative idea driving the entire story. I find fascinating the experience of reading a book, which narrates simply about a person who deliberately chooses to go to sleep for an entire year to hybernate and isolate themselves from the rest of the society. The point is that the character does not leave the world which inhabits to escape in a remote natural paradise; rather, they stay within the every-day world, but without really living into it. Therefore I ask you: do you have any reccomendations/suggestions on books (any nationality is welcome) that explore a similar idea – someone just sleeping all along?
Thanks x
