I don't get as much reading time as I like, but I get one beach week each week and it's for READING!! This year the beach read kicks off a little early because we're taking a little 4-day trip to Puerto Rico, so bonus points for Caribbean settings.
My gold standard is Terry Pratchett's Discworld books: funny, fun, page-turning, but not vapid or shallow. Preference for speculative fiction, but it doesn't have to be. (I can read books that don't include dragons and spaceships, honest—I just keep liking ones that do.) I prefer books that make me feel good after reading them, to books that make me feel bleak and world-weary. Other books I've enjoyed lately include Spinning Silver and The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, Dune, and The Last Unicorn (yes, there are some old classics that I might not have gotten to).
There are some books that are "on my list" that I have reason to think I might like; suggest which of these I should reach for immediately, or something else!
- Kings of the Wylld
- Cradle of Sea & Soil (PR author, and I think set there?)
- Ministry of Time
- Black Sun
- Gods of Jade and Shadow
- The Goblin Emperor
- The Queen's Thief
- Station Eleven
- Saint of Bright Doors
