I’m looking for books where the plot kind of revolves around restaurants/making food. A couple examples:
-
Legends and Lattes – Travis Baldree
-
Automatic noodle – Annalee Newitz
-
To kill a cook – W.M. Akers
I find it interesting and would love to read more books like that

Memoir, Crying in HMart
Like Water for Chocolat
If you like cozy mysteries, the Noodle Shop series by Vivien Chen is set in and around a Chinese restaurant.
Sweetbitter??
Food Person (not a restaurant setting but stars a lover of food)
Sunshine (actually a vampire romance but the FMC is VERY into feeding people and is a professional baker)
Food Wars/Shokugeki no Soma (actually a manga and anime, extremely silly, but the food presentations are great)
How To Grill Our Love (another cute, short manga series about a really BBQ obsessed guy)
The Kamogawa Food Detectives by Hisashi Kashiwai
Number One Chinese Restaurant by Lillian Li
Blood, Bones and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton
It’s definitely more of a magical realism take, but Aftertaste is fantastic and centers on the restaurant industry and cooking.
Last Night at the Lobster – the story is set around the last night before a Red Lobster closes, focusing on the manager and staff.
The Waiter by Matias Faldbakken. It’s the literary equivalent of a Wes Anderson movie.
