kazuo ishiguru's "a pale view of hills". just finished reading it. cannot figure it out. my theory, and it's probably wrong… the protagonist who lost her daughter befriends a very weird woman and her own miserable, messed up daughter, who turns out to be a sort of ghost of her own unalived daughter. is this weird friend really the protagonist (her dark side)? anyone?

Your theory actually makes sense, Ishiguro loves those unreliable narrators where you’re never sure what’s memory vs projection 😂 I remember reading this in college and being confused as hell too
